One place, with the details: distance, price, rating and when it closes, where Google lists them.3
Your craving. Your call.
Pick one craving or several, from 19 cuisines. Set a price, a minimum rating and how far you'll go.
Pick several at once: pizza, burgers, Italian, or all three.

From pick to plate.
Turn-by-turn directions with voice, right in the app. It follows you as you go and re-routes if you take a wrong turn. Prefer Google Maps? It's one tap away.4

One phone. Whole table.
Can't agree? Get three open places, pass the phone round, skip the ones nobody fancies, and let the app pick from what's left.
More to love.

Free. Or ad-free.
Free
Everything above. Banner ads, and now and then a full-screen ad between picks.
Plus
No ads, notes on your saved spots, a Menu button and been-there marks. Billed yearly, or once for lifetime, through Google Play.5
We keep nothing about you.
No account, no sign-up, no email address to hand over (unless you choose to email us). Your saved spots sit on your phone, and we never receive a copy. Each keeps only the place's ID, and its details load fresh from Google Maps; the app doesn't store your location or your distance from it. Your phone's own backup may restore them on a new phone. The ads are Google's: its AdMob software collects some data of its own inside the app, and we don't receive it (see the list below).
Location is used while the app is open to find places near you. If you've already allowed it, the app checks it as it opens so your first pick is one tap; it stays in memory and is never saved. When you search, it passes through our server on its way to Google; we never store or log it. Rather not share it? Type an address or pick a spot on the map; everything still works, apart from distances.
The things people ask first.
Is it free?
Yes. It's paid for by ads from Google AdMob: small banners, and now and then a full-screen ad between picks. An optional Plus plan, yearly or a one-time lifetime purchase, removes the ads and adds notes on saved spots, a Menu button and been-there marks.
Do I have to share my location?
No. Share it and you get places around you right now; skip it and type an address or pick a spot on the map. Everything works either way, apart from distances.
Is it on other phones?
Not yet. Food For You is on Android only for now, and we're not promising anything beyond that.
How is this different from a maps search?
A maps search hands you a ranked list and leaves the deciding to you. This makes the decision and shows you one place. That's the whole difference.
Where do the restaurants come from?
Google Places, the same Google data that powers Maps, so hours and ratings are Google's own. When Google has no price for a place, we don't guess one.
What if nothing's open?
It tells you. Ask for pizza at 7am and it says nothing's open for pizza near you, rather than quietly handing you something else.
Does it give directions?
Yes: turn-by-turn navigation with voice, inside the app. If you'd rather use Google Maps, that's one tap away too.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no account to make: no sign-up, no email, no password to forget. Open it and it works. What it collects.
